Dr. Whitney is a rare find for a Pain Medicine Specialist and an overall physician who takes the time, and cares about his patients. I had a complicated cervical spine fusion surgery at a young age. Overtime, this type of surgery takes a toll on other areas of your cervical spine and muscles, making this area susceptible to new pain. The pain became unrelenting with various movements, and physical therapy did not help at all. Furthermore, I was deterred from a myriad of physical activities, including equestrian riding. I did not think I would be able to ride again, without enduring constant pain in my neck and shoulders. Luckily, I was referred to Dr. Whitney by my neurosurgeon. When I met him, I quickly felt at ease. Most importantly, it was evident that he understood a patient's unique struggle with pain. Dr. Whitney thoroughly examined me and assessed the affected areas causing this new pain. He discussed his plan with me, beginning with Medial Branch Blocks to pinpoint/reduce the pain via this approach. If pain relief was achieved with the blocks, then he would proceed to perform Radio Frequency Ablation. I never heard of RFA at the time. My pain level ranged from 8 to 10 before the procedure. Once the RFA was completed, within a day or so my neck and shoulder pain was gone. Moreover, I was riding my horse pain free, along with other activities. I never expected the pain to diminish this quickly and completely. Dr. Whitney is uniquely talented performing this procedure, among many others. Overtime, other areas of my spine and muscles have continued to be impacted due to wear and tear or unexpected injury, which generating pain. He is the only doctor that I will allow treat me, and always with great relief. You will see for yourself should you compare Dr. Whitney to others in his field.
